Microsoft and Windows Phone Development
We can all remember when ASP.NET came out and Microsoft Marketing department was boasting that every WinForms developer is now a web developer as well. We can also remember how all those WinForms developers quickly changed their resumes to include web development. What happened all that time ago can still be felt today. It is very hard to find a .NET developer today (around where I contract) that I would consider a web developer. Now, my standards are not that high, understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript and even with these low expectations there are still very hard to find.
According to this article Microsoft is at it again, this time saying that every .NET developer is a Windows Phone developer. I for one will NOT be updating my resume. I have not written any mobile applications (other then a few just to have a play). I’ve been using Microsoft .NET Framework before it was in Beta and I would never consider myself Windows Phone developer.
Maybe I am naive, but this is a call to all the Microsoft .NET developers… don’t update your resumes until you’ve built and deployed a Windows Phone application. Maybe I am naive, maybe all of them will update their resumes and get well paid contracts. I just really don’t want to see another 10 years of crappy mobile applications like I’ve had to deal with 10 years of stupid ASP.NET applications, SharePoint anyone?
